About the event
A professional jazz pianist since 1967, Ralph Salt is a popular and influential artist in the north of England. After seeing Liberace at the Sheffield City Hall as a child in 1957, he began piano lessons and turned professional at the age of 17. As a teen, Ralph became obsessed with modern jazz, seeing many of his idols, including Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Thelonious Monk, Erroll Garner, and Keith Jarrett to name just a few. Studying the grooves of all the classic jazz records until the early hours as a young man, Ralph excels at interpreting the styles of the greats, adding his unique touch.
His impressive musical resume includes performances with Joe Cocker, Frank White, Art Farmer, Don Weller, Colin Lazzerini, The Longpigs, Bob Monkhouse and Marti Caine. He also gave keyboard lessons to a young Mark White from ABC.
Ralph has played at every acclaimed venue in Sheffield, from Bailey’s (one of Sheffield’s first nightclubs) and The Fiesta, to The Top Rank (02 Academy), The Leadmill, and Casablanca wine bar (Green Room). He currently has a residency at Trippets Lounge Bar on Trippet Lane where he can be seen every Friday night and plays regularly at other popular venues in the city.
