Attercliffe Free Library

A little piece of Sheffield's heritage

The Library Cafe & Restaurant is situated in the Attercliffe Free Library building, Leeds Road, Attercliffe - Sheffield's oldest library, originally opened in 1894.

The library then became Sheffield's first Job Centre, being the first place that jobs were listed in the area.

Next door to Library is the old Attercliffe Swimming Baths situated on the corner of Leeds Road and

Attercliffe Road, known as Speaker's Corner.

The library closed to the public in 1986 as Attercliffe became increasingly less a residential area but the building was purchased and turned into offices by Spaces Sheffield, along with many other stunning local buildings.

Now, with The Library Cafe & Restaurant, this glorious old building has been given a new lease of life as Sheffield's leading jazz & soul live music venue.

We're looking for more information about the history of our beautiful home. If you have any pictures, knowledge of the building or stories you'd like to share then we'd love it if you shared them with us! Email us at thelibraryvenue@gmail.com and we'll give you a free hot drink on your next visit!
