About the event

DJ Sean Phillips

British born singer, songwriter and DJ, Sean Phillips, has had a music career spanning over 3 decades. His DJ career begin in the 80s spearheading the MOD REVIVAL in SHEFFIELD. Unhappy with the ubiquitous & archetypal Mod DJs playing The Who, Small Faces et al, he decided to remain true to the esoteric 60s RnB, SOUL & SKA sound, introducing it to the Sheffield Mod scene. He became in demand & DJ’d all across the UK. He was subsequently mentioned in the hallowed ‘Our Generation’ tome by Tony Beesley, describing the pivotal characters in the burgeoning, South Yorkshire Punk & Mod scene in the early 80s.

In 2001 Sean had developed his song writing skills to such a degree he signed with publishing giants, EMI PUBLISHING LTD.. Sean made a name for himself writing top 20 hits in early 2000 for Sheffield girl band Supersister, S Club 7 and Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.

Working with such luminaries as Mousse T at the auspicious PEPPERMINT PARK, ‘Dead or Alive’ writers Tim Lever & Mike Percy , Altered Images’ Steve lironi, Producer & Northern Soul DJ, Ian Levine, ‘Olive’s’ Robin Taylor-Firth & Sheffield’s Rob Gordon (Co-Founder WARP RECORDS, FORGEMASTERS) Iconic Producer to Toddla T, Kid Acne, i-Monster & Roots Manuva.

His love of original 60s soul, rare-groove, blues & SKA has lured him back into the DJ scene in Sheffield, dusting off his auspicious 45s collection of original vinyl for the second coming.
